After the mask changes Rukia looks at Ichigo’s eyes and wonders why they are like that.

And then he’s caught.

You people are all fucking stupid. If you read the original description of the VLs, you’d remember that they don’t have ANY trace of a Hollow mask AT ALL, while in their UN-RELEASED forms. NONE of the Espada nor Wonderweiss are Vasto Lordes, because they all have a part of a mask somewhere on their face or body.
VL were described as as the highest class menos, humaniod(human sized), as strong as a captain if not stronger not once did it mention anything about not having mas and as juntakyle said the silohoute shows a mask and somewhat resembles ulq in his first release. don’t go offending people with bad info.

The debate here is whether the espada were vasto lordes or not. So, you basically didn’t make any point as we can also count the espada by hands. I am not saying for sure that all espadas are vasto lordes, but likely some of them are. I was criticizing on the previous post that claimed vasto lordes do not have mask, which cannot be confirmed in any bleach manga dialog.
The only vastorode they’ve shown in the series thus far (The big black shadow of one, at least) had a hollow mask that resembled Ulqorrias. Also, Espada 9 stated that he himself was a gillian, and Grimmjow also stated that he is an Adjuuchas. So, this proves that Vasto do have masks, and that not all the Espada are vastorode.
As far as Wonderwiess goes, when they showed his hollow form, it was about the size of Aizen and had a two legs, and two arms, and stood in an upright position similar to a Human. Not to mention he was strong enough to impale Ukitake with ease, using only his bare hands and Sonido, so he very well could be a vastorode.
Vasto Lordes have masks! They’re hollow after all, the only way they lose their mask is if they become arrancar

Actually no where does it say a Vasto Lorde no longer has a mask. The only thing said about a Vasto Lorde is that it was human size. You are thinking of an Arrancar, which the Espada were.
An Arrancar is a Hollow, be it a non-Menos, Gillian, Adjuchas, or Vasto Lorde who has removed their mask. This process has yet to be perfected, often leaving parts of the mask behind.
As a matter of fact, in the only picture ever shown of a Vasto Lorde, you can clearly see a Mask in the silhouette.
So in short, you are the “fucking stupid” one and your comment was 100% wrong.

Ulolqiorra, the strongest? Maybe against Halibel, but against Barragan and Starrk, seems to me the argument holds no water.
So what if Ulolqiorra has second release? He wasn’t the king of hueco mundo nor his spiritual power split into two arrancars plus a sword. I mean, if anyone is gonna argue that those doesn’t make Barragan or Starrk stronger, don’t use the argument that Ulolqiorra is the strongest just because he has second release.
Also, it’s not yet confirmed if Starrk is really dead. All we saw is that he got a mortal wound from Shunsui. And if he were really killed, it’s because Starrk’s immense power can be countered by Shunsui’s power, much like Tousen to Aizen, and not because Starrk can’t be a vasto lorde because of that argument.

Ichigo’s new mask looks similar to the face of Spawn (anyone remembers it?).
I think Ichigo became afraid (again) from the new strength of his inner hollow, and must relearn how to control it again – as he had to do it once, with the help of Shinji.
I guess he is on his way to controll his second release form. As in this extended form he has fast regeneration, he could fight against Aizen – let him cut, and fight back along the attacking sword. Like Kenpachi did against Tousen.

PS: Captain Unohana’s Bankai is also known. It’s a flying whale-like animal, which can transport people in his stomach, and cure them while in stomach.
I am also really keen on Kenpachi’s Shikai. My guess is, that will be the same sword, but with a sharp edge.
My other guess goes for a kidou based sword – as Kempachi sucks on that. That would be a grinny twist. :)

Zaraki’s blade is constantly in shikai, like Ichigo’s. Neither of them can force their reaitsu into a katana so their ZPT’s are constantly released, even though Zaraki doesn’t know his ZPT’s name.

It did say that his sword was always in its true form. A Shikai is a swords true form. So many people assume like Ichigo, his sword is always stuck in its Shikai form.

2 pages later she says he is the only captain without Ban and not only that he doesn’t know the name of his zanpakuto thus no shikai I remember quite clearly when the zangetsu is released for the first time he yells the name allowed thats how he got shikai by recognizing the swords name

King Zeal i am sorry to tell you but you haven’t read it right. on that page, ichigo is not sure that kempachi has his sword released, there forth we are back from were we started. and just to make it clear. there is no shinigami that can go shikai whithout knowing the name of his zampaktou, since kempachi dose not know his sword name that concludes his sword is not in his shikai form. till i will see kempachi say some sort of command to call his shikai or anything i am in cmopletly denyel that his sword is in his shikai state.

i would have to agree with megaloman, since kenpachis sword has looked like it does since the flashbacks where he meets yachiru. back then his spirit power wasnt fully evolved and was not that extraordinary as shown when captain-commander yamamoto ownes him without breaking a sweat during their kendo training.

Here, he pulls his sword to bring back Hinamori and Hitsugaya. For me it seems weird, to call forth that whale-like stuff, make it swallow the injured ones… but how did that huge thing came out on those narrow tunnels and doors?
Other than that… Shikai is the initial release of the sword, and Bankai is the full released form of the sword. Now, tell me this: How can a Flying Transporting Healing Whale be an initial release? I mean, what it becomes, when it gets fully released?
It would make more sense, her Shikai could create very powerful healing aura, and her bankai would be a powerful healer, but could fly and transport injured and everyone else.
Another point: She was able to partially look through Aizen’s hypnosis… and…
Well. Kenpachi. When he fights Tousen, he realizes, that his sword is not blind, and through his own sword, he can sense the other sword, and this way, he can found and cut Tousen while blind.
Now, how could Unohana look through Aizen’s hypnosis? Maybe she used her sword to examine Aizen’s “sword”? That would mean her sword has some sensing abilities. Kido, life, poison, whatever. I’m just guessing. But that would make sense, as a healer needs that, to understand what and how to heal.
Kenpachi’s sword: Yeah, it makes sense it is always in Shikai. But for that he should know the name of the sword. Which he clearly doesn’t. On the link, you can see, that Ichigo recognized the similarity between the constant states of the swords for them both. But I can link 3 other places (one is next to 3 sides to King’s link) that Kenpachi does not know the name of his sword, had never made (or tried to made) contact with his sword, and that even if he could, he would forcefully ignore it.
Now, how can it be in shikai form? That would mean, the sword is helping him. But it’s clearly not.
Above that, in the filler, which goes right now, the Shinigamis who were left by their Zanpaktou, could not even use their Shikai form. That means, the name and the swords soul is needed for that form too.
Yes, at the point where they have gained some contact with the sword during fight, some were able to go into shikai before the return of the zanpaktou (Renji failed first, but succeeded later, but Ichigo was fighting in Shikai from start), but…… Hey! Fighter’s Club? Remember the last scene? “He doesn’t exist, He does not have a gun, I have the gun!” I guess in these cases something similar happened. Renji realized, that his sword is a part of his soul, and Ichigo simply never forgot it (as he never doubted it).
And there is a funny point why Ichigo never loses his Shikai form: Well yeah, Ichigo’s sword in No-release form would be a half handguard as Urahara has cutted all the edge during the training. It would be no fun, if Ichigo would running around with just one half handguard. :)
