Bleach 381 Trivia : Mayuri Kurotsuchi (涅 マユリ, Kurotsuchi Mayuri) is Captain of the 12th Division in the Gotei 13 and 2nd president of the Shinigami Research Institute. He gained his position after Kisuke Urahara, the former captain and president, was sentenced into exile by Soul Society. His lieutenant is Nemu Kurotsuchi, his artificially-created “daughter”. He is often considered to be Uryū Ishida’s nemesis due to their conflicting views on life and the fact that Mayuri vivisected and killed Uryū’s grandfather, Sōken Ishida.
One could say Kenpachi is also boring, but…
1. His fighting style is fun. Laughing on each hit is heroic (and that’s what I mostly like in the fighting style of white Ichigo)
2. He has a lot of potentials yet to be revealed. You can always hope that in any fight he will show some new stuff.
But he himself confessed, that the bells in his hair are there in order to make the enemy able to sense his strikes before he can cut. That reveals that he is able to be faster than anyone could sense it.
And he has neither Shikai nor Bankai yet.
So he has A LOT of potentials to show.
3. We have seen Kenpachi on screen for about 10 scenes, while byakuya is there for about one fourth. He is overworked.

Yes he is. Refer to the Manga Scan I provided. He is always in his Shikai Form, he just can’t use any of it’s Abilities, don’t confuse the two.
Kenpachi is always released in Shikai form. He has to learn the name of his Zanpakutou to learn Shikai abilities and Bankai. His massive Rei power and the the Seal that does not hold it back, puts him in…Shikai. Just like Ichigo.
If you think that Hitsugaya isn’t a genius, then you obviously don’t understand what you have read in Bleach. Remember, he was able to reach Bankai in so little time at such an age, which is extraordinary.
And for those arguing about who is the strongest, refer to Kubo’s interview where he listed who was and who was not of the Death Gods. According to he: Yamamoto>Shunsui>Ukitake>Kenpachi>Byakuya. I can’t remember to well after that. And for those tho think they can correct me, Ichigo is a Substitute Shinigami, not a full-fledged Shinigami.
you got to know that if kenpachi shows his shikai there would be no meaning for him to continue the manga nor the anime…..and if his says the magical words BANKAI every anime including dragonball will be useless…..and the anime will end right there
you guys are forgetting one important detail, everyone has their own fighting style therefore somethings they’re good at and some things they are weak against.
kenpachi vs ichigo was based on majorly reiatsu level
byakuya vs ichigo was based mostly on speed
in a way, it’s kind of like pokemon games, a lvl 40 can beat a lvl 50 if it’s the right type and has better speed
but that doesn’t mean the lvl 50 pokemon sucks, cause it can do the same against a type that it’s strong against, get it?
so for kenpachi to go against slow moving yammi who is and idiot and is a massive target who seems to have trouble hitting smaller targets, it would have been easy to cut off his leg especially since he doesn’t know how to sense people’s reiatsu, he’s all brute strenght and hard skin with a huge body as a target.
and yes although ichigo DID use his holllow mask, remember he felt it differently than before almost as if it was putting him in an uncomfortable possition because it felt heavier and different so that could explain why he didn’t manage to do as much damage as he intended to, maybe it means his hollow is controlling half of it and he’s not aware of it yet. but that’s something new so it needs time to develope.
oh, and 2 more things…1, the new filler DOES serve a purpose…it shows how sexy soem zanpakuto REALLY are xD

First of all that doesn’t mean he is faster than any one.
Secondly Kenpachi is constantly in his Shikai Form. He only lacks a Bankai.
As far as Byakuya never revealing any thing new, he revealed both Utsusemi and Gokei in his last Fight, so I don’t know where you get that he never does any thing new.
Although I don’t think speed alone determines the Winner, I would be willing to bet that Byakuya would defeat Kenpachi, how is Kenpachi going to get around his Bankai? That doesn’t even account for the fact that he is much faster and excels in Kidou.
As for People trying to use Ichigo beating Kenpachi in his Shikai Form:
1. Ichigo got extra help from Zangetsu.
2. Ichigo had a bit of help from his Hollow Mask.
3. Kenpachi didn’t use Kendo.
Byakuya also held back against Ichigo, since he didn’t use Utsusemi, Gokei, and he hardly used any Kidou, which as I said before he excels in.
I agree to ALMOST everything you said. You only made ONE mistake: Kenpachi is not always in shinkai. He doesn’t have a shikai or bankai as of yet. He’s always in normal form and fight using only the sheer strenght of his reiatsu. The only one that is always in shinkai is Ichigo. He can’t deactivate his sword’s shinkai like everyone else.
Actually Kenpachi stated that his Zanpakuto doesn’t have a Seal like Ichigo’s. He said that he is constantly Released.

Like Ichigo, kenpachi must also have achieved a shikai, that is even if he did not know its name, it would always remain in Shikai form like for Ichigo.When he got zangetsu, it was in shikai form but his own reatsu was excessive so he could not condense it to a smaller version. Same goes for Kenpachi. He got his shikai but does not know its name to be able to activate bankai. And again he has a great amount of reatsu to be able to condense his already shikai form. In short when you get a zampaktou, it is always in its shikai form.

It’s strange that you said I need to know my facts and asked where I get my information from right after I posted a Link to the Manga proving that he is always in his Shikai Form.
Ichigo had extra help from Zangetsu. Zangetsu said he was going to let him borrow his full potential/power, which means that’s as powerful as Ichigo will ever get in his Shikai Form, which Zangetsu allowed him for that Fight.
Also not using your most powerful Attacks does mean you are holding back. What else would it mean? Any time you aren’t using your full Power you are holding back. If he had used Utsusemi he would have been faster than Ichigo. If he had used Gokei Ichigo would have been done for in one blow. If he had used more Kidou there are a number of things he could have done to him.
This is not even taking into account the fact that Ichigo only beat him because his Inner Hollow interfered at the last second and dealt a surprise blow to Byakuya. It’s also not taking into account that Byakuya was struggling mentally at the time which would hinder one’s Ability.
So in other words Byakuya not even using his full Power > Bankai Ichigo.
You would have needed to know the name of your zampakto to become a shingami remember? Kempachi was so full of his own power and seeing as hes been soul for a good 50 years easily he probley forgot it I hope others see this comment to finially put an end to this repetitive arguement, he probley has abilities with his current sword but there is no exsisted co-orporation between the too lol

He did not use it not because he held back but because he could not. In their battle, it was speed which determined everything. Remeber the time when Byakuya used white lightning when he gor the first chance. That means till that point in time he did not have the time to use it. One more thing after Ichigo’s hollow form took over, Byakuya was simply too amazed and exhausted to use anything….
Yes he could have, but he didn’t, which means he didn’t use the full extent of his Abilities. There’s more than White Lightning that he could have used.
He also didn’t use Utsusemi nor Gokei.
Maybe he didn’t perfected Gokei yet, but Utsusemi? I wonder why he haven’t use it yet, and kido isn’t an attack you can simply do, maybe in the fight he doesn’t has enough time to focus his reiatsu to use high level kido, or did not has enough reiatsu to use high level kido, remember, maintaining a Bankai takes a lot of toll from the user, and remember the first thing Ichigo goes Bankai, he simply don’t want to slash Byakuya and get easy win? But if he did do that, that fight would be boring,
and Zaraki admitted he lost to Ichigo, but basically I would call it draw due to Ichigo collapsed first

1. I think many People misunderstood that Scene. Zangetsu gave Ichigo extra Power for that Fight. He let him borrow his full potential. Shikai Ichigo in that Fight > Shikai Ichigo in any other Fight we have seen him in so far. Dare I say even comparable to his Bankai Form in terms of Power?
2. Ichigo had his Hollow Mask inside of his Shinigami’s Robe.
3. If Kenpachi had just gone all out from the get go, Ichigo would have been finished in one blow, in mere seconds. Of course he didn’t go all out from the get go because he wanted to make the Fight more enjoyable. Not that I have a problem with that but many People seem to take the Fight and interpret it in such a short sighted way without considering all the facts.

No, he was talking about the fact that it had no Seal, which means Shikai is his only Form at this point.
Renji has Released his Shikai without calling out it’s Name.
Learning your Zanpakuto’s Name is what lets you learn it’s Abilities, hence the “My Name is Zangetsu”, and then right after that “Getsuga Tensho”.
Ichigo didn’t know his Zanpakuto’s Name despite being in his Shikai Form for around the first Twenty Episodes. That’s simply because it was never sealed in the first place just like Kenpachi’s.
like people say kenpachi’s sword is kinda like ichigo’s sword and is already release. his sword mirrors his fighting style. it’s chipped and looks like it can’t cut and ready to break giving the other person the advantage. kenny has bells and the eye patch to put himself to a disadvantage. if it wasn’t release then it would look like a normal sword.

no.! Ken is not able to use shikai cuz he got as much spiritual enegry that he cant controll just use and his zankpakutou hates him cuz he never tried to talk to it until yamamoto soutaichou asked ken to try..
Actually he is always in his Shikai Form as I have already stated and proven. It’s true that he doesn’t use any of his Shikai’s Abilities. He needs to learn his Zanpakuto’s Name to use it’s Abilities and learn Bankai. However in terms of Power he is still in his Shikai Form. That’s irrefutable.
think about it Ken is even not able to use shunpou his spiritual energy controlling ability=0!
i doubt that’s the reason why he doesn’t know shunpo. given his personality and fighting style he probably thinks it’s for wussy. like how he was taught kendo but didn’t want to use it.
Though ken is not able to use shunpu, he is much faster in attack with both of his hands otherwise he could not have been able do defeat nnoitara. And also his speed is undisputable because he fought with much faster ichigo on equal footing. He does not really care about speed because he can counter any attack with his vast spiritual energy.

Tangerine, that also shows Kenpachi is quite strong than average Captain, the only Captain without Bankai is Kenpachi remember? Here goes:
Kenpachi sword is not released (i would guess he doesnt even know his name). SOME swords look different even before they are released. Like Hitsugaya’s sword. A LOT of guys (and girls) refer to objects as HE, so calling something a he is more a generally term then anything. For kenpachi to co-operate with his sword would change who he is period…so learning something new in combination with talking to his sword is out of the question.
Man you guys argueing who is the strongest between Kenpachi and Byakuya is pretty epic…been going on for a page now. No telling who would win. But i will say soon as ichigo puts on his mask (when its working, not the new mask) those captains will get owned. I will say this though. Ichigo fought kenpachi with his shikai (already been said) and “won”. Both men were on the ground though in the end. Ichigo fought byakuya with his bankai and half his mask and ONLY byakuya was left standing even though byakuya said that he won.
Ichigo getting help from Zangetsu is the only reason he beat Kenpachi? Thats kinda silly. For the most part all soul reapers get there poweres from there swords. Going shikai and bankai gives them more power without it they are not that strong.
And for the last time FILLERS DONT COUNT. Even if they do something “new” it will NEVER see the manga EVER. Its a damn filler. You might be able to take some historic knowledge out of it but not really because the manga will never address it. The manga is the key not the anime.
Hitsugaya’s sword is a normal sword. he carries a long sword, i believe those swords are called nodachi. it’s just a different TYPE of katana and everyone has different guards on their swords. if you look at shunsui’s vice-captain’s sword she carries a short sword, or a wakizashi sword. the sealed form does vary b/w length and guard that suits their fighting style. which makes sense since there are many types of katanas in real life so why not in fictional world. when hitsugaya releases he adds the chain at the end. their unreleased form are normal katanas but a different type of katana. kenny’s sword falls out of the norm of all types of katanas and the blade is different. from what i can remember all the sealed swords have normal blades in respect to the type of katana it is.
You have a good point but i still do not think kenpachi’s sword is released it just looks different from the majority norm. The fact that his sword is chipped says alot.
Uhm it’s a fact that his Zanpakuto is constantly Released. Please refer to the Manga Scan I posted proving this.

Zangetsu let Ichigo borrow the full extent of his potential, meaning Shikai Ichigo at that time is more powerful than Shikai Ichigo in the Heuco Mundo Arc, hence the term borrow.
well not one fan boy is going to say thier favorite character is going to lose against another so the argument is pointless….and to those who say the captains and ichigo need new moves how about you make your own anime with 20+ characters and have them do a new move every show.

Ichigo will lose if he fights Aizen. Ichigo is my favorite character, i like kenpachi and byakuya too and i say byakuya would win.

I’m definitely not a fanboy of Byakuya. I like Hitsugaya and Kensei. However, I can’t stand it when some noobs just say something like, “Byakuya is overrated and Mayuri / Kenpachi is much much better.” Not that Mayuri / Kenpachi aren’t good, but Byakuya has his character and shows up well for his part. The noobs definitely overlooked his abilities or characters.

well its somewhat true. byakuya annoys me…. I mean like.. sure he has skill and speed.. but other than that what else can he do besides using his bankai… Thats why I wouldnt necessarily consider him powerful. Just seems overrated and overused in the manga.
For me I consider someone a powerful person if they seem to have a immense/powerful reiatsu like Ichigo/Kenpachi.
Someone with a just cheapass bankai shouldnt be considered strong. ( Not saying hes isn’t really skilled or anything ).
Byakuya *not only* has speed, but also bankai, kido and interesting tactics. And Kenpachi? Just pure brute strength. I mean, look at the variety. Byakuya shows more of different sides. I don’t understand what you mean by Byakuya less interesting than Kenpachi when Byakuya is definitely a more defined and well-rounded character. Kenpachi’s character is very linear and predictable.
Byakuya almost easily defeated an Espada with an insanely over powered Ability. I don’t see how he’s not that powerful. I definitely consider him to be the most powerful Captain behind Unohana, Ukitake, and Kyoraku.

I know he’s strong but his fight is boring compared to Kenpachi and Mayuri, Mayuri kinda toying with his opponent, and Kenpachi truly enjoy the battle, that’s why Kenpachi and Mayuri more interesting to watch,

does anyone knows anything about yoruichi’s zanpakutou? she was the captian of the 2nd devision and dont all shinigamis hav zanpakutous?
We have yet to see her Shikai and obviously her Bankai, but her Zanpakuto was shown in a Flash Back in around Episode 57 that Soi Fon had of herself and Yoruichi, fighting Hollows.
Soi Fon now owns yoroichi’s sword.

Hey Justin, I looked at the manga scan that you provided and what Kenpachi said can be interpreted in different ways IMO. As you say, he can mean that this sword is already in its released form, which makes this a constant-release zanpakuto. OR he can be saying that this is the true form of his zanpakuto because he does not know the name of his zanpakuto and hasn’t been able to release the zanpakuto and discover any new forms. He wouldn’t know what the true form of his zanpakuto is because he didn’t learn the blade’s name. If you recall, Zangetsu only took its true form after Ichigo learned the name of his blade. So it’s possible that his zanpakuto is unreleased.
In regards to predictions, I think that we’re finally gonna see Captain Unohana break loose and unleash hell on Aizen and his 2 cronies. I have a feeling that Aizen & Co. will somehow succeed in destroying Karakura Town and achieving bits of their plan before being defeated. If they die before even doing any true harm to this world or Soul Society, the story pretty much dies and gets boring.
It’s gonna be like the Buu saga of DBZ where everyone gets close to beating the bad guy, but the bad guy keeps gaining new powers to extend the story arc. Aizen (and possibly Tosen and Gin) will reveal possible hollow powers and everybody struggles fighting him. Then Ichigo busts out that Super Hollow form and takes on Aizen in a titanic clash that shakes the whole world and results in a Ichigo victory. We all know that Ichigo will defeat Aizen. How that happens is all speculation at this point.
As for the whole Kenpachi vs Byakuya debate, there is no debate. Tite Kubo will not pit them against each other. Just sit back and watch them fight. Who gives a shit which is stronger? Just know that Yamamoto, Kyoraku, Unohana, and Ukitake are the 4 most powerful captains and you’re good. Everyone else is below them. End of discussion.
Eric, that would be true if it weren’t for the other things he said in that Scan, such as a Seal never being put on it in the first place. A Seal is put on a Zanpakuto to put it in it’s Unreleased Form. Kenpachi did not get this Seal and therefore he has no Unreleased Form.
Yea, but i heard somewhere that because of their high spiritual pressure, their swords in like a permanent shikai state.
