    Uryuu, sternritter ‘A’ “the Alternative”

Since Uryuu got tricked by Juha, it could be when Juha’s physical body is rend, or destroyed the piece of soul inside Uryuu becomes dominant and juha continues to live on as Uryuu. This was only possible because he posseses something the other quincy didn’t have. the ability to survive auswahlen.

Uhm fancy, but I’m not convinced

that’s interesting, Ichigo kills yhwach, yhwach’s soul assimilates into uryu. and Uryuu become Yhwach. that’s pretty interesting.

Its interesting how Juha the first chapter when he was revealed talked about how he detests conflict, simoultansly wiping out of his men. To me this shows a man whose tongue is conflicting his actions. Im shure Kubo will his story on due time, but i will say what i think.

We already know a little about Juhabach about his unlucky condition at birth, his nature is that he is completely void of all sense, blind and deaf, cant speak and cant move. By imrpinting his soul by those who touched him, the human senses began develop and people who touched him got healed of diseases normaly uncurable, despite the fact the none remained alive for long after this. Becayse of this by time he was revered as a god (reminds of Jesus doesnt it?)

Juha didnt want to return to his state as blind and deaf. He continued to imprint his soul into people. A lot of people were dying. The souls society got involved. People were gathering around Juha in thou To many people where dying, this was concerning the ‘balancers’. The soul society located the problem and found Juha at the center of the issue. The soul society agents to prevent people from approaching Juha, without touching because that wpuld be unfortunate for the agents. As of this, the symptom Juha was born with was returning shortly by time. He began to despair. Juha obviously didnt want to return to a world of darkness, a world without senses. He began to form a group of people loyal to him he had saved once. He began to concinve them that he could everyone of their illness, everyone like he did to them. But an obstacle to this was soul society that needed to be anihilated. This is when the war starts.

    • Ilith'Bah - March 21, 2014 at 5:18 pm #

      Good sum up.

So he hates conflicts but needs it to not disappear back into darkness. Because if his people doesn’t die, their soul doesn’t come back to him.

More than a grey character he looks like the nth victim of the fate and thus of the Soul King who supposedly has some role in that. At least considering that Aizen believed something would have changed with him in a power position.

    • Sakanade - March 21, 2014 at 5:26 pm #

Yep. Juha as a character and his unfortunate fateful condition is an excelent concept by Kubo. A man forced to wage war otherwise he dies, he wants peace but he cant have peace. Better concept than Aizen if you ask me.

      • Ilith'Bah - March 21, 2014 at 5:40 pm #

well, uhm, this certainly falls very well within the canon philosophy of japan AND is much better than unexplainable purely evil characters..

..but IMHO that ain’t much different from Aizen. The things he said while loosing were hinting that all his acts were the result of suffering and, pretty much alike JB, he was “condemned” by the cycle of existence and his very heart to end up doing what he did, trying to change things in a convenient manner..

..truth is, both had a choice. Aizen could have gotten over his trauma growing up some emotional maturity, Juchabach could accept his very nature and embrace his destiny. Instead they decided to make thousands of others suffer for their own good. This isn’t grey nor evil but rather childish and egoistic. Not a surprise they are condemned to loose then, otherwise the story would give the wrong lesson to the readers.

Real grey characters are indistinguishable from the heroes, they are on opposite sides that are equally agreeable with depending to the values you have.

      • Sakanade - March 21, 2014 at 5:58 pm #

I agree, both had problem embracing what they are. And in Uraharas view Aizen might have wanted to be more like normal, most likely the same with Juha. They both rage against the power that reigns as it likes, does what it wants with whoever it wants, sometimes without reason they can’t understand.

    My analysis on guremi’s ability

    1. This guy can project his imagination, which means there should be some kind of “area of effect”. Otherwise he could just imagine anyone dead from afar. The way i see it his ability is realty altering, its not an illusion but he just make his “vision/imagination” an alternate reality. Sort of what ifs.

    2. This guy claimed he killed kensei and rose, and my deduction he did so by imagining, but why didnt he just do the same to the rest? Does he also enjoy battle and only imagine his enemy dead as a last resort? Or he just couldnt, at least not while his enemy is still on full power. Well on kensei and rose case they were on the brink of death so that much is clear.

    3. This guy turned yachiru’s bones into cookies just by imagining. Why didnt he do the same to kenpachi? My oppinion it depends on his enemies reiatsu, and his ability only affects those who’re weaker or on par with him.

    4. And finaly, how long does his ability last? Ryuken said quincy are much like fullbringer. They control surrounding reishi to become theirs, the different is they are organized, but still share the same trait. So when a fullbringer die, the trace of their abilty will vanish, so i think his “reality altering” ability will completly vanish once this guy is dead. Which means yachiru’s bones will return and kensei rose will still be alive.

Well at least this is what i thought and hope to happen, cause killing of kensei and rose without showing us they bring back their mask on is just rubish. Please reply with your own thoughts guys.

One of the worst chapters I’ve ever read. Just wow. It’s hard to put into words how disappointing it is that Unohana’s character was never given even a tiny bit of justice. I waited 5-6+ years to see her get the “pecial fight she was suppose to get, and it really was just a training session in which her Bankai wasn’t fully explained. I hope Kenpachi just meant the Yachiru part of her is dead (though even that would be somewhat disappointing), and that she’s still alive overall. I doubt it though. This definitely has to go down as one of the biggest disappointments/tragedies in Manga history.

Other than that, the chapter was short even by Bleach standards. Nothing really happened.

    I give this chapter a 0.3/10 (rounding to 0/10).

    • Lin Yang - March 22, 2014 at 3:31 pm #

      Calm down Leptor.
Unohana’s dead, that’s a fact. Kenpachi confirmed it, and Isane confirmed it as well.

Also, we’re going to see Unohana’s bankai during a flashback. There’s a reason why Kubo didn’t explain her bankai, and it’s because he’s saving it. He already said Unohana was the worst criminal back in the day, you think he’s not going to show us what she was like back then?

Furthermore, this was a set-up chapter. Therefore, it did its job of setting up for next chapter. There wasn’t supposed to be much happening.

The chapter was short, but it wasn’t bad. It did it’s job; confirmed a few things, laid out a stage for them to fight, and brought Zaraki in a new light because he finally has the title of Kenpachi – the thing he wanted ever since Bleach started.

      • Leptor - March 22, 2014 at 3:36 pm #

Even if Kubo plans to explain Unohana’s Bankai in a flashback, which I honestly doubt (if he didn’t feel he had the time to do it before why would he change his mind for a flashback?), it wouldn’t have the same effect. We’d already know the result of the fight, and it lost it’s momentum after she died. There would also be a lack of display when it comes to her other abilities. Yes, the chapter confirmed Unohana is dead, but if the confirmations are bad writing then it doesn’t help.

As for being a setup chapter, he was already set up to fight Gerumi in last week’s chapter. We didn’t need two setup chapters for one fight. Kubo just hardly has any content in his chapters.

      • Lin Yang - March 23, 2014 at 5:22 am #

You do realise we’re going to see another flashback right? Kubo has to show us what happened 1000 years ago.

Kubo already has it planned out, when Ywach and Yamamoto spoke about the past. Kubo didn’t just include it in there for the sake of it, he’s going to talk about it.

We have to know what happened 1000 years ago
        1. Yamamoto failed to kill Juha
        2. How deadly were the original gotei 13. Kubo already has their background images drawn out, so he already has their appearances planned out
        3. What made Yamamoto turn from a devil into a law abiding citizen
        4. Who were the royal squad before they were promoted?
        5. How did the Quincy assassination occur?
        6. What made Unohana the worst criminal in Soul Society?

Seriously, Kubo isn’t stupid. Unlike Oda, where he TELLS you whether a flashback is coming, Kubo just slips it in there and waits for the right time to tell the story.
I mean look at the history of Bleach. Before the final arc occurred, everyone believed Bleach had plot holes because nothing made sense and Kubo didn’t explain anything. Now that he’s explained almost everything, no one has questioned Bleach and they all agreed that it makes sense.

It’s the same with Unohana. Even though she died (which makes sense), Kubo is saving her for the flashback arc.
Why would Kubo show Unohana right now? She’s boring. She’s nice, she heals, and we saw a GLIMPSE of what Unohana’s past used to be like.

Kubo explains everything and shows everything. Just look at the latest fights, every character explains their ability before they fight. But Unohana didn’t. Don’t you find that odd? It’s obviously because he’s saving it for the flashback.

Dude, just wait. I actually understand where Kubo is taking us with this and I enjoy what he’s set up.

      • Leptor - March 24, 2014 at 2:23 am #

        1. Like I said, though, even if we get a flashback it wouldn’t have the same effect as it would have had in the current timeline. So that wouldn’t really save it from Kubo dropping the ball on that matter. Plus, I don’t think it’s even a guarantee we’re going to see her Bankai and all of her other abilities in a long and even one on one fight in a flashback. Otherwise Kubo would have just shown the full training session instead of off paneling most of it.

        2. What do you mean exactly? I don’t really see much of a difference in how the flashbacks are started. The only real difference I see is that the flashbacks in One Piece are a lot more in depth and emotional. Bleach’s flashbacks earlier in the series were very well done, but they’ve been rather shaky since the end of the Arrancar Arc. Basically, after the fights in Hueco Mundo. Szayel, Grimmjow, Neliel, Nnoitra, and a handful of Fraccions all had extensive back stories. At the end of the Arrancar Arc, though, Barragan and Stark received shorter back stories (still longer than what we’ve been given for the Fullbringers and Sternritters though). Even the Shinigami ones have mostly been similar. We got an entire TBTP Arc for a handful of characters and a fairly extensive back story for about half or more of the Vice Captain level characters.

        3. I would actually argue the opposite on Kubo explaining things in this Arc and now no one’s asking any questions. I’ve felt strongly for some time now that this Arc’s revelations have mostly had explanations that haven’t made sense and/or were underwhelming. I think Jugetsu and Isshin’s back story have opened up several plot holes/oversights. If the flashback where Kyoraku was a kid was really only around 1,000 years ago, that also wouldn’t make much sense.

    • Leonheart - March 22, 2014 at 7:27 pm #

I deduce all kenpachis has the same zanpakuto, if this is true then no need for a flashback, zaraki himself will reveal unohana’s bankai ability.

      • Leonheart - March 22, 2014 at 7:32 pm #

It will also explain why he could hear his sword after he defeated unohana. And like isane said in the last chapter, “so you finaly inherited it”, this could mean two things, “kenpachi” as a title, or “kenpachi” as a tiitle and zanpakuto spirit. Perhaps this spirit only chooses the one with strongest potential.

      • Leptor - March 22, 2014 at 8:00 pm #

That wouldn’t really make sense though. The Zanpakutos are unique and dependent entirely on the specific soul. Unohana and Kenpachi can’t have the same exact soul. Even family members don’t have the same exact Zanpakuto, even if the names are similar.

Plus, it wouldn’t have the same effect being used by Kenpachi, and it would be lame if Kubo didn’t want to come up with something new and unique for him after all the years of waiting.

      • Lin Yang - March 23, 2014 at 5:25 am #

Nah it’s not true. If you read “spirits are forever with you”, the past Kenpachi had a constant bankai release and had something to do with elements.

All the Kenpachi’s in the past were EXTREMELY haxed. But the Kenpachi before Zaraki was lazy, and Zaraki just defeated him because of his laziness and arrogance since he always had constant bankai release.

      • Leptor - March 24, 2014 at 2:26 am #

Is that post aimed at me? If so, that novel is non-canon. Plus, I don’t see how that addresses what I said about there being no such thing as two souls that are exactly the same. Kenpachi had a dormant Shikai and Bankai before Unohana died. If he inherited her soul after she died, he wouldn’t have already had a dormant Shikai and Bankai beforehand. Shinigamis imprint their soul into their Zanpakuto, so there only exists one soul for each Shinigami.

Even family members don’t have the same exact soul, as we’ve seen with Isshin and Ichigo.

      • Skeleton Snax - March 24, 2014 at 6:57 am #

That probably wouldn’t make any sense given the asuichi(?) now, but I did think that maybe Kenpachi gained something more than just a title from Unohana.

@Leptor: I know that Kenpachi novel wasn’t canon, but it’s just the idea that the Kenpachi’s, including Unohana seem to have some kind of overpowered, completely different kind of ability with that has the sole purpose of destroying the opponent with no BS in between. Whatever Kenpachi’s does, it’ll probably follow that theme.

Speaking of the Kenpachi’s, it would be wonderful (for me at least) to see a real first day flashback of the events of Kenpachi’s arrival to the G13, all ending with him claiming his captain position.

      • Lin Yang - March 24, 2014 at 8:40 am #

Nah it was aimed at Leonheart. Kubo pretty much confirmed it though, by saying the novel was pretty accurate.

But with the introduction of asauchi, and how no shinigami can have the same zanpaktou, I highly doubt Zaraki and Unohana would have the same sword.

If they do, then i’ll be surprised and wait for an answer.

    • Sakanade - March 23, 2014 at 2:32 pm #

Leptor we already knew one of them would die in a fight like Kyoraku said earlier. That wasn’t a lie. You didn’t take that seriously?

      • Leptor - March 24, 2014 at 2:28 am #

        1. Kubo always makes it seem like characters are going to die, but then doesn’t kill them off.

        2. A warning wouldn’t make it any better. It would still be very disappointing.
