    So much better in color!!
Plus that first fan art was.. was simply gorgeous but needed some glasses to see every detail. Nice shirt she is wearing Wink Wink :3

I still hold through that Erina only meet Jou once and him being the stray cat he is.. Wouldn’t come To Granpa Nakiri place for 10+ years.

Plus I having a clear picture of what Central’s goal is. Basically in an extremely high standards, People/chefs that label their food as gourmet food is scamming people of their money. Because charging food can be pricey in a restaurant and become richer. However to the normal person who is less skilled wouldn’t know the difference and will keep going there because its great, eat the food. PROFIT, Repeat.

Azami wants to stop that and have true gourmet food that isn’t fake. The price is.. Chefs will lose their freedom to create new dishes, an unchangeable society where Authoritarianism is at play.

    Prediction for SnS 169
    -Soma cooks Transforming Furikake Gohan
(the first dish he made for Erina) but since he grew as a chef, he made it much better.

-Erina smells the dish, her stomach starts to rumble because she hasn’t eat for a while.

-Soma finish cooking it and serves it to Erina.

-Erina eats it and she in her imagination of Egg paradise.

-Since the aroma of the food was too strong, it manage to reach the other PSD members. They smelled it in Soma room.

-Before Erina could say its delicious.

-Everyone came inside and made a loud noise. Making Soma unable to hear Erina voice.

  4. LogicoftheVI - June 1, 2016 at 5:14 pm #

    Souma Chapter 169 prediction:
-Hiasko finds Erina and Souma as the head for the Kitchen
-Souma begins preprinting to make a classic Yukihira dish
-As he is cooking he reflect on the time he spent learning from his father
-Souma serves his dish to both Erina and Hiasko
-Erina immediately thinks of Saiba as she tastes the dish but she can still see Souma’s face as the maker of the dish
-Other PSD members make their way into the kitchen ruining a nice shipping situation for fans

Jou is back with Grandpa Nakiri!!
Which means Gin isn’t far behind.

Took you 10 years to get back, you old stray cat.

Soma’s dish is rice. It may be the dish that Soma first cook for Erina. Transforming Furikake Gohan!!

      Need English translation ASAP

“Soma’s dish is rice. It may be the dish that Soma first cook for Erina. Transforming Furikake Gohan!!” I doubt that it will be that. She loved it but still talked shit about it, even the look on her face says it’s something different to me.

@Ri Shin SNS chapter is out Jou isn’t at the school those pages are a flashback from after Jou and Souma had their cook off at the dorm.

  11. LogicoftheVI - June 2, 2016 at 5:13 pm #

This chapter seems like a waste. Having her admit that she loved his dish on the first day would be real character progression for Erina. IDK what the fuckthe author is trying to do but this shit feels so forced. Having her eat this dish and say it is delicious doesn’t prove shit (imo) nor does it evolve her character or show growth. As a matter of fact Souma should have progressed greatly from the first dish he made for her making his claim even more nonsense since she enjoyed it then she is really going to enjoy it now. She still talking shit to Souma even knowing where he got his skills from…her character is still a POS…smh.

    • DarthGehena - June 2, 2016 at 6:58 pm #

Well your opinion is what’s really worth shit. Having her eat another Yukihira style dish will prove everything Erina needs to prove at this moment. She agrees with Azami’s ideals, but she also agrees with Jouichirou’s cooking, which runs counter to those ideals. She doesn’t know which side to take: Central’s or Polar Star’s. And her still talking shit to Soma is just a habit she still has from their first encounter. She is after all a stubborn teenage girl. So once she eats this Yukihira style tempura rice bowl, she’ll demonstrate that “oh so important” character growth that idiots like you crave, seeing as how she will choose a side. And if you can’t see that, then you’re skull is full of shit.

      • Great General Ri Shin - June 2, 2016 at 7:25 pm #

“And her still talking shit to Soma is just a habit she still has from their first encounter”

Hmm, that true. That her habit of being stubborn and her getting mildly annoyed with Soma.
Oh such sexual tension between them :3

But I disagree, everyone has the right to an opinion even though you don’t like. :/

Geez why you gotta be so rude?

        • DarthGehena - June 3, 2016 at 10:48 am #

I’ll grant that rudeness is a side-effect of being really pissed off about people who feel the need to bitch, moan, and complain about a good story like Shokugeki No Soma. So when someone had to talk shit about the author and the story, I in turn felt the need to talk shit about them to them, pointing out how said shitty comments came from shitty complainers.

      • LogicoftheVI - June 2, 2016 at 8:03 pm #

@DarthGehena “Well your opinion is what’s really worth shit.” Most people’s (mine and your’s included) would be worth the same so what of it?

“And her still talking shit to Soma is just a habit she still has from their first encounter.” No it isn’t this is how she treats people all through out the manga. Look at how she did Ikumi after Souma beat her. Erina’s character is a POS, and the author has done well to portray that.

“So once she eats this Yukihira style tempura rice bowl, she’ll demonstrate that “oh so important” character growth that idiots like you crave” You have to be an idiot to want characters to grow? Really? Also I’ve been saying for weeks the growth shouldn’t come now from her eating Yukihira style cooking (which she has done throughout the manga) she just ate Yukihira style Venison three chapters ago.

        • DarthGehena - June 3, 2016 at 10:45 am #

What of it? When you complain about the chapter being a waste, asking what the fuck is the author thinking, and saying shit feels forced, then you absolutely deserve to be complained about directly. I have no complaints whatsoever about the author, the story, the characters, etc. I absolutely have complaints about the complainers.

I don’t buy the manga. I don’t support the author in any way. So my opinion is worth shit. And in all likelihood, you don’t buy the manga or support the author at all. So your opinion means nothing, as well.

Character growth is all well and good, but not for its own sake. And certainly not for the pissants who complain about character growth or lack thereof. Character growth is good only when the situation in the story warrants it. Not every event needs to necessitate character growth. So when people complain about lack of character growth, it makes me very angry.

And excuse me…POS? Are you talking Point Of Sale? Are you too lazy to fully spell out words and phrases that you have to abbreviate it? Much like “shaking my head”?

        • LogicoftheVI - June 3, 2016 at 7:35 pm #

@DarthGehena you must be new around here and not know who I am. I am one of the few people in this community who collects anime, pays for streaming services, and pays for a jump subscription so I can get the official version as well as contribute to the industry.

“Character growth is all well and good, but not for its own sake. And certainly not for the pissants who complain about character growth or lack thereof.” In almost every community I visit those who are not Erina lovers (and even some of them) agree that she is long overdue for some growth. Also many a loyal fan has complained about how Central has been handled to this point.

FYI I really enjoy reading Shokugeki and believe it is one of the better manga I read but that doesn’t mean that every chapter is a masterpiece or that I can’t call the author out on BS when I see it.

“And excuse me…POS? Are you talking Point Of Sale? Are you too lazy to fully spell out words and phrases that you have to abbreviate it? Much like “shaking my head”?” POS=Piece of Shit yes I said it loud and proud. I have never liked her character or the way she is portrayed and hopefully the growth she gets will serve to change that opinion. As stated the author has done a great job of making her character shit so now it’s time to focus on her more redeeming qualities. I’m honestly hoping the author gets it right and I go from hating her to liking her but as of right now I hold firm to my convictions.

        • DarthGehena - June 4, 2016 at 3:50 am #

Then I stand corrected. Humbly. As a contributor to the author and the industry, as well as someone who pays for the story, your opinion is worth something after all. Kudos to you.

Then it’s fair to say “to each, their own”. Erina has been a haughty domineering ruler type, but I’ve always liked her. And I’ve enjoyed her several endearing moments, like her reading shojo manga. To me, she was never a piece of shit. Like I said, I’ve always liked her, even the worst aspects of her character. And I like how she’s progressing. So I have no complaints at all. And as for her character development, I like how the author takes his time. To you and others, it may be overdue. To me, it’s all in due time.

And I for one maintain what is apparently the minority opinion of totally enjoying and agreeing with how Central is handled. Again, zero complaints. Total enjoyment.

Not every chapter needs to be a masterpiece, as you said. IMO, every chapter is a single piece of the overall evolving mosaic. That’s why I refuse to complain or condescend about anything in the story. Period. I choose to find only the good and address that, because I honestly see no bad at all. And I have every faith that the author will develop and reveal certain things all in due time.

So IMO, the author has never done anything wrong. He’s done right the whole time. And that’s the stance I stand by. So you may as well call BS all you want. You’ve earned your opinion as a subscriber. We’ll just agree to disagree.

    • Great General Ri Shin - June 2, 2016 at 7:17 pm #

Erina grows from not liking Soma into liking Soma is progress :3
Basically everyone want Erina to be more bold.

In a way, I take this chapter as Jou didn’t want Soma to be in Totsuki.

Back then, Jou was keeping a watchful eye on Azami. As well enforcing that Azami’s fear grab on Erina is still there and Soma & the 92th generation will finally save her.

Ehh, He only wants to impress Erina (Pairing goggles on)

It also had comedy in it. Soma evil laugh and he could always make a test dish. Which will be his revenge on her.
(Highly doubt it but it could happen)

As well, We knew that Erina take cooking very seriously. She never thought it was fun in the kitchen unlike Soma & Alice. So after this will change her to be more loose and she should start enjoying herself more.

Plus this is a shipping chapter, so no wonder you won’t like it :3

      • LogicoftheVI - June 2, 2016 at 8:07 pm #

“Erina grows from not liking Soma into liking Soma is progress :3
Basically everyone want Erina to be more bold.” My problem is the reasoning for opening up and growing closer with Souma has nothing to do with Souma himself but rather Saiba.

“In a way, I take this chapter as Jou didn’t want Soma to be in Totsuki.” I took it as he only sent him there to help out with Erina at Grandpa Nakiri’s request. Though I may need to read that part again.

“It also had comedy in it. Soma evil laugh and he could always make a test dish. Which will be his revenge on her.
(Highly doubt it but it could happen)” While that would be funny it would defeat the purpose of what he is trying to do. Megumi is due for another one of Souma’s creations sometime soon though.

“Plus this is a shipping chapter, so no wonder you won’t like it :3” +1

        • Great General Ri Shin - June 2, 2016 at 8:17 pm #

Well author could had handle the situation better but he took this route instead.

1)We already know once Erina was in the PSD dorm, she will be force to open up even without knowing Jou is Soma name I bet.

  12. Great General Ri Shin - June 3, 2016 at 3:08 pm #

    @Logic

Mangastream version is out, then gotta wait for few more days for the Viz version thats in color.

But an interesting thing that Erina said “The dish that dear Mr. Saiba so graciously prepare for me.. doesn’t resemble your cooking in anyway.”

Even though Soma is Jou’s son. Soma change the Yukihira style into his own thing. He made it better, just like how a student will surpass his master by finding ways to improve his master techniques to make it stronger.

Plus Jou knows huge vast of cooking styles, Because he traveled around the world and must had learn.

When Erina said” you don’t even know any of his recipes” which Soma recipes “well that may be true”.

    • LogicoftheVI - June 4, 2016 at 6:39 pm #

“But an interesting thing that Erina said “The dish that dear Mr. Saiba so graciously prepare for me.. doesn’t resemble your cooking in anyway.”

Even though Soma is Jou’s son. Soma change the Yukihira style into his own thing. He made it better, just like how a student will surpass his master by finding ways to improve his master techniques to make it stronger.” I can see this from a couple different ways. If she only tasted his food once ten years ago how can she truly know what Saiba’s cooking is? In the last 10 years it would be silly to think Jou’s style hasn’t changed (Saiba isn’t Saiba anymore either he is now Yukihira) even slightly through the knowledge he gained in his travels. Also during that 10 years is where Souma honed his skill, cooking daily side by side with Jou. Souma has emulated that style and through the original Totsuki method is still able to show himself through his cooking. It begs the question though Erina is the God’s tongue can you see her face through her cooking or do you see Azami?

      • Great General Ri Shin - June 4, 2016 at 9:58 pm #

“If she only tasted his food once ten years ago how can she truly know what Saiba’s cooking is?”

I don’t really know. That was one hasty message by Erina, after one meal from Jou.
Heck, like you said you can make an argument that Erina has been eating Saiba/Yukihira food all along but didn’t notice.
If Erina ate more of Jou’s food, what she said”The dish that dear Mr. Saiba so graciously prepare for me.. doesn’t resemble your cooking in anyway.” would have more weight to it.

Now I wonder.. Did Jou teach Soma all he knew about cooking? My answer is no.

“It begs the question though Erina is the God’s tongue can you see her face through her cooking or do you see Azami?”

        Please be Erinas..

    • LogicoftheVI - June 4, 2016 at 6:42 pm #

“When Erina said” you don’t even know any of his recipes” which Soma recipes “well that may be true”.” I’m going to wait on the Viz version for this one. I believe she is talking about the one receipt she tasted. Saying Souma doesn’t know that one. Like you said you believe she only tasted his cooking one time so, that means she doesn’t truly know anything about Saiba/Yukihira style cooking other than that one dish she tried. Going by that I would venture to say that she has been having Saiba/Yukihira style all along and didn’t even know it. Meaning there is a glaring weakness in her “God’s Tongue” ability.

      • Great General Ri Shin - June 4, 2016 at 9:58 pm #

        Ok I’ll wait

  13. Great General Ri Shin - June 8, 2016 at 3:22 pm #

Man oh man…The author sure didn’t hold anything back with the fan service… Erina having tears in her eyes, finally she remembers and Soma said “Doesn’t it seem like the perfect cooking that ties the knot to our fate?”

That like saying they are made for each other. Enough author.. we get it. Erina & Soma gonna happen. lolz

Eat Up Erina, Soma has chosen you as the fated one!

That last page though.. the Author always make Soma look like a badass. There should had been an explosion or Erina foodgasm right at that moment and Soma walks off like a boss.

Thank for the cooking tip.. I totally did not know that freezing egg can last 50 days. I knew that after purchase.. Eggs can last up to 3 weeks.

    • LogicoftheVI - June 10, 2016 at 1:45 pm #

I really liked this chapter. Souma’s explanation of his dish was very nicely done and I liked the development for Erina. I really liked the commentary from everyone else listening in, and Souma’s signature “It wasn’t much” was pretty badass.

      • Great General Ri Shin - June 10, 2016 at 2:34 pm #

I also really like Soma quote “I feel those who only recognize one “right” way will never go beyond and reach truly good things.”

Its all about being creative :3

Erina said “this is the kind of cooking I wanted to make”
Time for Soma to teach Erina the ropes of the Yukihira way. ^_^

  17. Hi Shin Unit - June 10, 2016 at 3:54 pm #

I see that @Onyx and @Logic liked this chapter. I don’t think I can say the same. While I do think the chapter had its positives, it had its fair share of negatives which ultimately affected my enjoyment.

Soma showcasing his obscure but useful knowledge through the explanation of his dish was great and his expression at the end with the words, “It wasn’t much”, was quite badass. Soma has always been and always will be the best thing about the series.

I was not a fan of the negative side comments by Hisako & co. I did not find it funny and felt it was unnecessary since it did nothing for the situation at hand, imo. It showed how little faith and understanding the PSD members have regarding Soma’s cooking skills.

I have never been and definitely was not a fan of Erina’s haughty behaviour this chapter. I still cannot fathom why she is so unreceptive of Soma’s cooking. She likes it and she knows it and yet, she acts as though it is horrendous.

It’s great to see Erina get some character development and the minor flashback of Jou which culminates in Erina saying she wanted to be like Jou (and by addition, Soma) was nice. However, Erina’s development feels very forced. I feel like that now she knows Jou is Soma’s father, she has to like his cooking. I will, however, admit I thought the use of an egg was great touch.

Anyway, I won’t say that I didn’t like the chapter. I did like it but not as much as I would have liked.

    • LogicoftheVI - June 10, 2016 at 4:41 pm #

“Soma showcasing his obscure but useful knowledge through the explanation of his dish was great and his expression at the end with the words, “It wasn’t much”, was quite badass. Soma has always been and always will be the best thing about the series.” I totally agree with this these were definitely the highlights in my opinion. That and the commentary from the others eavesdropping on them.

“I was not a fan of the negative side comments by Hisako & co. I did not find it funny and felt it was unnecessary since it did nothing for the situation at hand, imo. It showed how little faith and understanding the PSD members have regarding Soma’s cooking skills.” I looked at this as them thinking Souma was going to be using her in a similar way to how he uses Megumi. I think they were legitimately concerned he was going to present her with one of those dishes opposed to what he actually did. I do see where you are coming from though as their commentary was really only there for comic relief this chapter.

“I have never been and definitely was not a fan of Erina’s haughty behaviour this chapter. I still cannot fathom why she is so unreceptive of Soma’s cooking. She likes it and she knows it and yet, she acts as though it is horrendous.” I have wondered about the Tsundere attitude and if it would go away. The authors decision to highlight it as of late has rubbed me the wrong way. She still isn’t letting her guard down with Souma which I kind of see as a good thing since I didn’t want a monumental change in her character just because Jou is Souma’s father. She has liked every dish he has prepared for he though so I definitely get where you are coming from with this one.

I like this chapter better than the last one, not saying it was the best ever but pretty good. And though I still feel that Erina’s progression has been forced it was still pretty good this chapter. The things I like about this chapter I really liked; Souma’s quote “I feel those who only recognize one “right” way will never go beyond and reach truly good things”, the explanation of his dish, Erina remembering that she wanted to be the same type of chef like Souma and Jou, and that last page.

      • Hi Shin Unit - June 11, 2016 at 12:58 pm #

Read my response to @Onyx. I explained why I didn’t like it.

“I have wondered about the Tsundere attitude and if it would go away. The authors decision to highlight it as of late has rubbed me the wrong way.”

I have never been a big fan of tsundere characters. They tend to rub me the wrong way. Erina’s is the tsundere persona personified to a tee.

“She still isn’t letting her guard down with Souma which I kind of see as a good thing since I didn’t want a monumental change in her character just because Jou is Souma’s father.”

While I do think it is a good thing that Erina has not let her guard down around Soma since finding out he is Jou’s son, I feel as though her haughty attitude towards Soma has felt very forced since the reveal.

“She has liked every dish he has prepared for he though so I definitely get where you are coming from with this one.”

Personally, I think the author shot himself in the foot during Somas and Erinas first encounter. I think it should have been handled a lot differently than it was.

2)But but they thought Soma gonna be evil Soma who will serve Erina a test dish. So it was more comedy, if they were there and smelled his dish. I bet those negative comments won’t be there.

If they really, in their heart of hearts, thought Soma was going to produce one of his forbidden dishes, they would have barged in and stopped him. Logically speaking, it makes no sense why they would let someone like Erina taste it.

The fact that the side-scenes made no sense is why I didn’t find it funny, rather I found it to be a waste of panels.
