Toriko 396 Spoilers Full Translation

Translated by MNS
Status: Confirmed

Komatsu: Woooow So this is the new Otogi Castle!! It’s such a fairy tail! An orphange that serves GOD. You finally fulfilled your dream!

Ootake: Thank you Komatsu! The IGO and the Saiseiya have given us all the support necessary to create this castle! It’s not just about childcare but we also aim to achieve other things!

Komatsu: Well you can eat GOD here… I guess even adults want to be a part of this. My dream is that the children that grow up here will be able to be grow up and fulfill their dreams

Ootake: Yes… even if they fail, they are welcome to come back. We will welcome them back with warm food and the King of all food, GOD! We will embrace them in this Fairy Tale World

Ootake: Oh by the way… How is Ume Chan doing?

Komatsu: Ume chan is teaching cooking at a famous school. He was one of the chefs that prepared GOD so the applications to become his student isn’t stopping

Ootake: Haha let’s hope his hair won’t turn white because of the stress. So you are as usual going to adventures with your legendary partner?

Komatsu: Ph yes! Toriko san was actually calling me. I have to hurry up. See you again Take chan!

Ootake: Aren’t you busy… Wait where are you going next? Komatsu chan?

Komatsu: We are going to the outer space!!!

Ootake: S…Space? Be…Be careful!

[Toriko]

Komatsu: Toriko Saaaan!

Toriko: Hey! You are late Komatsu!

Komatsu: I am sorry I was visiting Take chan at his new orphanage. What a nice weather it is today! The sun…is actually back again…Sunny!!!

Toriko: Oh yeah! I finally found the reason for the Gourmet Eclipse.

Komatsu: What! Really???

Toriko: Yeah it wasn’t all that special! Apparently an invisible Gourmet Satellite was covering the Sun

Komatsu: Gourmet Satellite? What’s that?

Toriko: It’s apparently a Gourmet Ingredient that is made of Gourmet Matter. Originally, the Nitros were the ones who created it to cook a planet

Komatsu: A gourmet ingredient?! So it’s basically super huge cooking tool?!

Toriko: Yeah that’s basically it

Komatsu: The scale is way too big for me to make sense of it. Maybe…Just maybe there is a frypan to cook stars….

Toriko: There apparently is!

Komatsu: Wait there is?

Toriko:Way back then the Demon Kings were the users and there is this fairy tale there were eating a bit of the Sun. It could actually be true

Komatsu: Wh…What do you mean?

(I skipped a small part of it as the translating it is a bit tough. Sorry about it)

Toriko: Listen to this story. It’s about my appetite.

Komatsu: Your appetite…?

(The cover Pic is apparently Toriko talking about this story)

Toriko: Then the guys actually told me a lot of stories! Apparently this place called the Furthest Lands is a place where the Gourmet Gods used to live and then an Appetite Inflation occurred which caused the Gourmet Power to explode and this is basically how the Gourmet Big Ban happened. As the expansion of the space and an incredible amount of food was spread all over the space. And one Family of the Gods that protected a particular food is… “The Full Course of the Stars” And this family also got separated because of the Big Ban’s Power. And after years have passed, the Gourmet Energy eventually formed different planets with different colors. But even then the Gods continued to protect the Full Course at the different planets. Even if the preference of taste changes as the years go on, their only wish was that this full course will bring them together one day. The Father embraced the black colour, the mother White, The big Brother Red, The Next Brother Green, and the Third brother embraced the colour Blue.

Komatsu: Uhm… It actually remember me of Acacia’s Family

[Thanks Akagami]

      • GomoGomoNo - November 15, 2016 at 5:11 pm #

Did you stop reading? They pretty much wrapped the story last chapter, so we don’t know what’s even going to be in this chapter, unless it’s a flash forward to seeing Toriko Jr.

Buhbye manga that I don’t read..

What can I say.. From the ups & downs.. Toriko is a pretty underrated manga where the world building is on par with One Piece if not better.

The fighting was great at part 1 & little ways at part 2. Like how most of the fighting had to do with food-wear and the strongest character used his hands.

I felt I learn something. Heck Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro with his knowledge/research on cells manage to get a person a Nobel prize reward.

The characters.. Ehh None of them stand out beside Komatsu who should be known as a bitch/a crybaby/Bull shit character/ Plot convenience character/cheater/Stupid character and a character that I despise to the end. -_-*
The only good thing that got going for him is he know how to cook.

The story got hit the hardest due to it being rush. Toriko could go on at least up to 800 chapters. So many things unanswered like Who are Teppei parents? Why didn’t they help in the spirit world? Because Jirou did.. That would only mean Teppei parents are alive or Mitsutoshi forgot about them. -_-

Why does Toriko have 3 demons and why is the third the strongest?

How about the other heavenly king’s parents?

Would Komatsu ever get laid by Nono?

Mitsutoshi made a big deal that their are space animals that can be eaten. We could had gotten a space arc.

    Who are Komatsu parents?

Will the blue Nitro ever get along with the Red Nitros?

How did they cook god? Did they kill him or did god surrender himself like Another?

    • Stranger - November 16, 2016 at 3:17 am #

Yep i agree with you…it’s like the whole manga only coverage around 30% of Toriko’s universe….a lot of things unanswered…and a lot of events skipped like how do they acquired the food kings…yeah hopefully there is gonna be more stories…

    • Leptor - November 16, 2016 at 4:28 am #

I don’t consider Toriko to be in the same league as One Piece in any aspect, but I agree that Toriko has great world building. Toriko isn’t a series that I consider overrated or underrated. Some people overrate it and some people underrate it IMO. That goes for most other series too, though.

Still, I agree that if Toriko’s writing weren’t rushed and better in some aspects in The Gourmet World, then the series could have been very good if not great.

      • Kouhei - November 16, 2016 at 10:27 am #

Toriko is the serie that is closest to One Piece. Gourmet World had the same potential of OP’s Grand Line. The fights are better than OP’s, not a difficult task I’ll say. But the characters needed a better development. I think WT will surpass Toriko in a short time.

Sending Toriko off with my final thoguhts:

I definitely feel that Toriko is an underrated manga. The World Building in the first part of the manga was amazing and sadly the Gourmet World was rushed or I think we would be talking a lot more about the World Building that was done. The characters were very diverse and well used throughout the series. Though I will admit that some of them could have gotten much better development. The battles were epic and pretty easy to follow compared to some other manga and for the most part there wasn’t too much BS happening until we entered the Gourmet World.

World Building – I would have to say this is where Toriko shined the most in my opinion. The World Building was epic the author really took his time crafting a very detailed world. Coming up with all the different types of food, the different areas, the different locations, and extreme environments shows a level of creativity that is seldom seen in this cookie cutter industry.

Battles – The battles were epic and you can tell he was inspired by Dragon Ball (as Oda was). The different techniques and how they related to food was great. I really enjoyed Zebra’s ability but Cooc’s really intrigued me since it was poison and cuisine mixed. I love how Food Luck was used for more than half the manga I really felt that it helped to keep things feeling like asspulls but was overused in the end imo.

Characters – The main case was nothing special though I do like Zebra. Toriko is the MC, he’s cool, but I’m just not the guy who goes for the MC that often. My favorites would be Brunch, Midora, Don Slime, Jirou, Ichiryuu, and Zebra. I do with the other main characters like Heavenly Kings would have gotten more development.

    Things that bothered me:
    1. Toriko’s third demon not being explained really is a let down
    2. Komatsu’s Appetite Demon not being explained kind of sucks since I though it would play a bigger role
    3. The way the battle’s just got bigger and bigger without any real training for the power up (as we saw early on). Basically Toriko got to many power ups to quickly especially since the third demon wasn’t explained.
    4. The pacing at the end. I was ok with it for the most part but these last few chapters seem like they are getting the bleach treatment.
    5. More development and involvement for the other Heavenly Kings.

    • LogicoftheVI - November 16, 2016 at 1:24 pm #

Overall I think Toriko is a pretty good series and one worth checking out if you like Adventure, epic battles, and great world building.

  6. Kouhei - November 16, 2016 at 3:55 pm #

Toriko definitely has a special place on my manga list. Century soup is probably on my top 5 arcs of all mangas. Ichiryuu vs Midora is on my top 5 battles of all time. That fight brought tears to my eyes. The Gourmet World should be better. After the Disappearing Cuisine arc, it got lost. The ideas were great, like the 8 kings and the search for Acacia’s full course. But did not delivered well. So rushed, confused sometimes, and what is the point of bringing thousands of chars and not develop them? But anyway, it’s a good manga and I’m sad that’s ending so abruptly.

Overall, 6,5/10. Let’s see the last chapter to say the last good bye!

The news about the new series is a mistranslation apparently, so there’s no new series.

This marks the first time i haven’t read a spoiler for the chapter when they are up, never thought i need to resist them.

  9. Kouhei - November 17, 2016 at 10:54 am #

Poor ending IMO. It’s sad that everything showed on this last chapter should’ve been at least 5 or 6 arcs. It’s clear that Shima really tried hard to tie everything. But the feeling I have is that Toriko is incomplete.

    Ehh.. Disappointed ending..

The Space arc could go for several arcs and we see a snake that even bigger than the mother snake. 0_o

RIP Toriko and Good luck Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro in your future works.

  12. Dr Sexy - November 17, 2016 at 4:59 pm #

It was a great ending. I hoped for Toriko and his mates to travel to space for some new adventures even though we won’t be seeing any of it.

I, contrary to most, think that the gourmet world arc was really well done. It indeed was rushed after the hunt for Another but the quality of the chapters were top notch. The last hundred chapters were EPIC and Toriko manga earned the title of “Hype Train”.

So many unimaginable things happened, almost like the manga went beyond fiction.

Ichiryuu is red, Jirou is Green and Midora is blue, these 3 are of the same color as Toriko’s appetites. I presume that the 3rd demon is Green and that Jirou is the strongest disciple.

It was a fun ride along the hype train. Now that it reached it’s final destination all I can say is Farewell.

Toriko will definitely remain as one of my favorite manga of all time.

  13. GomoGomoNo - November 17, 2016 at 5:03 pm #

…I have to honest, I didn’t have the same satisfying effect I usually have when finishing a manga’s final chapter or any story’s end. He had to shove so much information into the chapter to answer so many questions that it really felt like reading a index in the back of a book, as opposed to a final chapter.

…It’s really too bad he clearly had to rush his series to the end…

However this has been a really amazing series. Shimabukuro Mitsutoshi is a good story teller and an amazing artist. I can’t even count the number of times a single page or spread really just took my breathe away. The details he would draw into the artwork sometimes really was mind blowing.

The way he combined cooking and fighting was really special and certainly something I’ve personally never seen before. And man did this man do some research, I was actually learning stuff about food and cooking. He did a great job balancing the cooking and adventure too.

From the Galala Gator, to the Puffer fish, and that giant mammoth, and that soup that made everyone smile, lol. And then the ridiculously large stadium, which we thought was big until they got to the Gourmet World. Good times.

And there were so many memorable characters and moments outside of even the main characters. Tommyrod will always be one of those annoying characters that I hate to admit entertained me. Planet punching old geezer Jirou always was the shit and one of my favorite characters in any series. And the Monkey King arc was just so much fun it will stay with my forever.

So, even though it ended like it did, I am glad I got to chance to take this journey through the Toriko world of ingredients.

    – Thanks so much for the memories, Shima.

    — “We give thanks to all the ingredients in the world.”

  14. Great General Ri Shin - November 17, 2016 at 11:02 pm #

Oda did a homage to Toriko.

    – Striped Pig

It represents “Shima-Boo”, known as a nickname for Shimabukuro.
“Shima” means stripe and “Boo” is an onomatopoeia for pig’s cry in Japanese.

    – 39

    39 represents “Thank you”.
3 and 9 are pronounced as San (さん) and Kyu (きゅー) in Japanese.
    3 (さん San) 9(きゅー Kyu)=さんきゅー(Sankyu)
“Thank you” is written as さんきゅー(サンキュー) in Japanese..

    – 5 Birds

    They represent “Toriko”.
Bird is called 鳥(Tori) in Japanese.
    Tori 5= Toriko (Torigo)

The pen name is Oda. When Oda drew this cover page, he asked Toriko’s author, “What’s your favorite animal?”. He answered “I love rabbits.”

Request to Oda: “Please draw rabbits M.S. loves.” (M.S. seems like an abbreviation of Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro.)
It’s funny that this request comes from Oda himself.

    Perfect Chapter.

I usually give the last chapter of any series that I read/watch a perfect rating, but in some cases the chapters are far from perfect. Not Toriko’s. That’s not to say that it would normally get a perfect rating from me, but if you exclude the context of Toriko the series rushing, this was a beautiful chapter. Even when you include the context of Toriko the series rushing, you have to give credit to Shimabukurou for writing some of the best chapters that he could have in that situation. The world building in this chapter is outstanding and I am very interested in Toriko’s Universe. The illustrations in this chapter are beautiful and almost every page of this chapter I was in awe of the beauty of the illustrations.

While I’m still not sure that Toriko’s potential is up there with series like Naruto, Magi, Fairy Tail, Bleach, Dragon Ball, One Piece, etc. this chapter shows that the series has significantly more potential than what we’ve gotten in The Gourmet World so far.

    I give this chapter a 10/10.

I really enjoyed how Toriko wrapped up and I can honestly say that I like this ending much better than Naruto and Bleach endings.

I do wish we had gotten more information on the Toriko’s 3rd Appetite Demon but I am pretty well satisfied with all the other things that were covered in the end. The explanation of the Gourmet Big Bang was a great way to tie things together at the end imo. Good Luck Toriko and Komatsu!! That space arc looks like it would have been the shit but I am good with how thing happened.
